Arribas Brothers: All things sparkly!

If you have been to the Arribas Brothers store at Downtown Disney or the Main Street store, you know that it is a wonderful, sparkly place to visit. Especially when the glass blowers are hard at work on Main Street, amazing what they can make from glass.
.
This little fellow is one of my prize possessions, he is small but very sturdy, I have even carefully washed him when he has gotten too dusty.
.
.
Front view, his chest and face are ceramic, the stripes are enamel and the rest is Swarovski crystal.
.
.
Look at that grin!
.
.
Lots of sparkling in the sunshine.
.
.
Looks like he is getting ready to bounce.
.
If you ever decide to buy something from Arribas, don't worry about transporting it home. Each item comes in a fitted box that travels well.
.
.
The white, larger box is what holds the crystal base and the blue box is for Tigger.
.
I love all things sparkly, as much as I love Tigger. The two of them together: Irresistible!

From the Jar of Buttons: Roger Rabbit

Back when Roger Rabbit came out, I was amazed. I saw it 3 times in the theater, and have owned various copies on DVD and Blue-ray. I have several collectibles as yet to be rediscovered somewhere, but I can share a couple of buttons from the jar of buttons..
This first one I believe I may have gotten at Disney MGM Studios, now Disney's Hollywood Studios.
There used to be a plan to have Roger Rabbit as a major part of the studios, but legal trouble with the joint owners of Roger, Amblin Entertainment, put the breaks on that. A real shame, in my opinion.
..
This next one is from the Disney Store. We would get buttons promoting new videos frequently, and wear them on our sweaters. Remember the sweaters?
..
Speaking of videos, please come back in a couple days to see some video related buttons from the jar.

Circus Dumbo

Pretty in Paint
.
I just watched the 70th Anniversary Edition of Disney's Dumbo the other day and was amazed at how compact a film it was. At only 63 minutes in length, it still managed to hit all the marks for an animated classic!
.
One of the pivotal moments in the film is when Dumbo is relegated to being a clown, which to the elephants, is a great source of shame. To become a part of the clown troupe, Dumbo's face is painted white and he is given a hat and collar.
.
So why the artist for this ceramic planter painted Dumbo like this:
.
.
... is a matter of artistic license, I guess!
.
.
Only Dumbo's butt escaped the paint
.
.
What plants would an elephant plant if an elephant could plant plants?
.
.
Only 'Japan' is found on the bottom
.
This isn't uncommon for Disney ceramic pieces. Being manufactured in Japan would likely date this planter from the mid-70's or earlier, as after that, China took over.
.
.
Is this really Dumbo?
.
Three things make me believe that it is, even though his paint scheme is off model. First, it's obviously a baby elephant. Second, the ears are the right size for the character. And third, you can't mistake that face! The expression he's wearing shows up in the film many times.
.
But one thing is for sure: The Circus has come to Disleelandia!

From the Jar of Buttons: Movie Premieres

Though I've never made it to an actual premier, back in the mid 90's, Disney was having annual events in New York City that I was fortunate enough to attend.
.
The first was from the Lion King's premier run at Radio City music hall in 1994, which I first shared back when I originally introduced the Jar of Buttons.
.
.
The very next year, Pocahontas had it's World premier in Central Park, and I could have gone as I was a Cast Member at The Disney Store. And I couldn't go! I couldn't get off of work from my "real" job! Oh, the humanity. I remember distinctly being totally envious of several friends who went, and all I got was this button!
.
.
Finally, I did get to see Hercules during it's premier run at the newly renovated New Amsterdam Theatre.
.
.
Come back soon for more From the Jar of Buttons!
